We’re gonna party like it’s 1989?  Not quite as catchy as the anthem from Prince, but that is how local Montgomery, IL DJ Steve Beck started his DJ career.  Steve was working as an office manager at the Fisherman’s Inn in Elburn, IL and a week prior to the end of the 80s, Steve was entrusted with finding DJ entertainment for the New Years Eve Party.  He contacted a local company, D&L Entertainment out of Aurora.  The company had the equipment available, but nobody to perform.  So Steve, who dabbled a bit in radio while enrolled at Waubonsee Community College, decided he would be the DJ for the night.  And of course, he was hooked!  He soon after took up a job working for D&L while continuing his work as the office manager at Fisherman’s Inn.

Life took a twist for Steve a few years later and he ended up moving up to Minnesota to be a district manager for H&R Block.  While in Minnesota, he interviewed his future wife Linda for a job in December 1994.  They soon dated and were married on November 23, 1996 while living in Louisiana a short time.

They eventually made their way back up to Chicago and settled in Des Plaines.  Steve left H&R block and started back up as an accountant.

Steve always missed his years of being a DJ so in 2007 he and Linda started to talk about Steve getting back behind the console.  However, this time Steve would invest in the equipment and be his own boss, and “A Little Night Music DJ Service” was started.

Steve & Linda developed a 5-year plan for the DJ business to be their main source of income and allow them to concentrate on the business full-time.  Linda is a great asset to the business helping in the finances, setting up gear and proving moral support!

They are in Year 3 of their plan and Steve plans on devoting many hours this year into building the business and growing the number of events he performs to meet their goal.

Steve joined the ADJA in 2008 and he and Linda have been active members of the chapter with excellent attendance at meetings and Steve recently joining the Board.   Steve knows that had he not joined the ADJA, he does not feel he would have stayed with his business.  The ADJA has been a great source of learning, encouragement, and ideas to help him continue on his path of creating a sustaining full-time business.
